What is Vroom Planet Project?

This 3D animated series promotes toys: the Vroom Planet “mini cars” range, small Smoby cars (a firm which bought Majorette in 2003). Audience is 2-4 years old.

First, we were 3, working for Digiplay Studio in Lyon, to respond to the call for tenders launched by Smoby and make the pilot. Then after winning the project, we were 2 to make 3D characters, sets, texture maps, all setups and animations, lights and setup renderings. The series has 10 episodes of 2min30 each.

The entire project was done with 3dsmax. Some color and contrast adjustments were made on After Effects then video editing was done on Final Cut Pro. The series was released on DVD format.

Storyboard

Once screenplays were written by Smoby’s screenwriter, we drew freehand all episode storyboards.

Working goal

The series is aimed at toddlers (2-4 years) so the graphics and colors are accordingly.

The 3D constraint was to be the most faithful to the toys.
